"innocent" souls? Maybe it's just religion and media, myths, stories, and books; another thing people use to feel they themselves are given value to. To protect something that would be considered of value to anyone or anything without warrant to see ourselves to be valid, Or to believe in something as if the belief gives you the power of knowledge for confiding in it as a means of comfort.
What would they want with a soul? To use it? Eat it? Play with it? people know they're obviously more interested in what we can do and give them like alcohol, blood, favors, whatever it might be.
In theology, the soul is further defined as that part of the individual which partakes of divinity and often is considered to survive the death of the body. Many cultures have recognized some incorporeal principle of human life or existence corresponding to the soul, and many have attributed souls to all living things.
Essentially a soul is energy. But energy doesn't automatically mean it's a food source.
