the back of my throat burns

for the moments i spent

sobbing in my car,

driving down an empty town road,

each second the increasing sound of my car accelerating

disturbing the still of the night.

i would close my eyes, my lungs in flames

as i would scream until i ran out of breath,

until all i can feel is sandpaper

up against my vocal cords

coaxing them into a deep unknown sleep.

i screamed until there's nothing

left to say, and then

i cried until there's nothing

left to cry over.

i empty my soul into the night,

but it's never enough.
