i think that one of the most difficult things about life is finding who you are and who you want to associate with. "you are who you hang out with," right? at least that's what my mom told me when i was younger. if all of your friends are bullies and you stand around and let them bully, you're also a bully. if all of your friends are racist and you don't correct them or try to educate them, you're also racist. does that logic also transfer over to social media though? are you who you follow on instagram? are you who you have a snap streak with? if your friend posts a tone-deaf or racist joke on their story and you don't correct them because it's "none of your business," are you as guilty as they are? what if your friends with someone but not super close but close enough that you follow each other, if they make a joke about a r*pist should you keep following? i feel that in the 2000s and 2010s with the developments of social media still being new and uncharted there was a lot of lee-way with online racism. but now, as the next generation, it's our job to stop it. this has gotten long but my point is. if your "friend" is posting copaganda, racist/tone-deaf memes, or supporting a rapist in the year 2020, you need to try to educate them and if they resist drop them. because to answer my previous question, yes. you are who you follow. see something, say something. i guess that's the logic here.
