book time, babey!
Category: Real Life
Okay! Time for some book talk.
A few weeks ago I went on a series of small vacations because I was just being hot-potato style tossed between family members. Anyway.
In good ol' Asheville, North Carolina, there's a lovely bookstore called Malaprop's. The atmosphere is Real Good and the selection even better! I got my copy of What If It's Us by Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli. It's such a good book and one of my personal favorites as far as Mr. Silvera's go. It's set in New York City and focuses on a very relatable young man from Georgia (oh! a southern boy! like me!) meeting an equally relatable local guy who struggles with his identity.
About three weeks later I had the indescribable pleasure of visiting Petoskey, Michigan. I'm sure I'm meant to live there for a time someday. Maybe not specifically Petoskey, but near Lake Michigan.
In this lovely town, though, is a bookstore called McLean & Eakin Booksellers. There are two public floors to shop through, but if you're anything like me, you'll want to go down the nicely decorated staircase to the basement floor. You'll find some neat stationery supplies, puzzles, vinyls, and cassettes. It's also the location of the clearance section that I thank the waves I decided to check out.
Lucky me, I found a book that I had been on the lookout for since what? December? That book being The Agony House, which I am in the process of reading right now. I know it's like, uh, a young teen book? But I am not good at reading horror and the combination novel/graphic novel is super appealing. Though three chapters in it's still a bit slow. I do have hope though!
In a different area of the basement, between the graphic novels and young adult sections, was a display. Holy Schist am I glad I gave that a twice-over. I Fckng SCORED.
I Am Now The Proud Owner Of Check, Please! Book 1: #HOCKEY
I'm so happy and Eric Bittle owns my heart. Lucky for yall, Check, Please! is a publicly available webcomic!!! I definitely recommend giving it a read. Ngozi Ukazu is a genius, in my opinion.
I won't lie. I give my copy a little kiss before bed every night.
Last on my current To Be Read and recently acquired on sale: The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue. I am admittedly not a fan of the cover design as it makes the book seem like a teen girl's wattpad fanfiction cover, but the book has been recommended to me and I'm a Big Gay and I want to read Big Gay Books.
Alright, I think that'll do for a blog post that isn't poetry. Go Samwell!
BONUS: a good Gay Movie you probably won't hate is Big Eden, which is just really wholesome and has a happy ending. :^D
