Skype
Category: Resources

Okay, so it seems like every tech forum I hit, people are bitching about the new Skype (8.xxx and higher). Yes, it's an autistic mess. I hate it too. Here's how to return Skype back to sanity. First, you'll want to delete Skype off your computer. Next, go here https://www.skype.com/en/ and click on "Downloads."

You should now see "Desktop." Below that where it says "Skype for Desktop," choose "Get classic Skype" and download the .exe file. It should be "SkypeSetupFull.exe" version 7.40.0.104 (this is the last Skype version without retardation). Install it. Now log in and see the sane version. Most of your settings should be the same as before. Check anyway.

Of course, Microsoft will still push the newer versions down your throat and you'll get the usual update messages. Annoying pr!cks. But you can kill that too. Here's how: log out of Skype. Go to Start and type %appdata%. Click on "Roaming." At the top where it says "AppData," click the arrow after it and choose "Local." Do the same there and choose "Temp."
It should look something like this: "User > AppData > Local > Temp."

Now, scroll down until you see "SkypeSetup.exe" (that's the fvcker which keeps nagging you with the stupid updates). Delete it. Log into Skype and you shouldn't see any more "update" horsesh!t. Enjoy.

LOFL, I actually do - and btw, it looks like Microsoft shoah'd my Skype solution. It works, but update notifications still pop up - so I found another solution. Testing it right now, so far so good... Will post soon. ;-)

I haven't had any issues myself and that's across several systems - that new interface is cancer though. It seems a lot of other people don't like it either... ;-)
